Just got back from Talk of the Town in Glens Falls, which never fails to impress with its assortment of delicious pizzas.
Unfortunately, I've been collecting a lot more leftovers than winning tickets up here, as a bunch of bad trips kept me from coming close to nailing anything on Friday. The prices were wack anyway, with Tsunamic at an absurd even and 6/5 on Miss Macy Sue.
Shifting to Byk schedule tonight, so have to make this short, but getting off work at 2:00 tomorrow, so hopefully there'll be plenty to talk about then.

Friday pick six
A couple of quick thoughts because it's starting to get quite busy and hot around here. Only looked at the fourth through the ninth and am still looking for Chuck so we can go in on a ticket.
The fourth and the seventh are the places I'd spread, with one inscrutable baby race and a very competitive turf heat. I think Coa's horse is a pretty solid single in the fifth, same with Miss Macy Sue and Fort Carillon in the eighth and ninth, respectively. Liking the 2 and the 3 in the two-year-old grass race, so if I can't find Chuck or someone else to chip in, I'll just try to hammer the last five races and leave the fourth to the birds.

Sorry, I'm redboarding
'Cept I barely made any money. You ever have one of those days?
Where you end up in the black, but feel like you should've crushed it harder?
Thursday, August 2nd for me. Three horses I really liked today, Irish Smoke (thanks to Marty), Queen Joanne and Shakespeare (WTF? 9/5?!), all rolled and I hit on all of 'em, but not the way I would've liked to. That's what a weekend of losing and partying will do..
Still nice to have some winning tickets after the last seven days I had.
My fault for the lack of an update. Soon after I got to the track, Byk and I were running errands and then we had lunch in town, then by the time I got settled, the jump race was about to go off.
Haven't much looked at tomorrow's card, partly because I'm still in awe of what Shakespeare did today. Short distance, prep race, 21-month layoff, none of it bothers him. 7/6-0-0 with an injury causing his only loss, this guy is still the nuts.
Just got back from a Sciacca-free dinner, and you could hear a pin drop in the joint. A welcome change for me, although Steve seemed disappointed that there was no Super G, even with all the ball-busting Gary gives him. Still got plenty of laughs courtesy of Sonny, who we found out tonight hails from Mobile, Alabama, which somehow seems to fit perfectly.
The meatloaf up near Desolation Lake is off the chain.
So much for every post having a purpose. Back in the morning with at least a few quick thoughts, because there's a pick six carryover, and Chuck and Matt want to put together a sextet.

Shakespeare's still running?
Fresh off a 32 BSF and a 21-month layoff, the Theatrical monster returns on Thursday, facing a stakes-worthy field of six others, headed by Poker victor Art Master. That is until Frankel scratches, which will leave gamblers with the excruciating ultimatum of singling the playwright or essentially passing on the pick four.
Haven't taken more than a perfunctory glance at the card, and will do so in the morning then report back, as I oddly have a day off one day after returning to work. Although with the way my tabs ran on Wednesday, one would probably be well served to stay clear of anything I recommend.
By the way, I managed to not run anyone over with the golf cart, and now I've graduated beyond bumper cars in my driving experience. Next step up has to be a car, right?
Decided that I'm absolutely taking a change of clothes to the track from now on so I can potentially go out drinking after the races with Lori or any other able bodies, and we're planning on popping into Siro's tomorrow after the races, although I'm pretty muthaflippin' broke. After that, I'm supposed to go to dinner with Sciacca and family again, to a "meatloaf joint" according to this kid Matt, so it might be a long night.
Off to watch The Daily Show and get some really filthy sleep, and will post at least some brief thoughts on tomorrow's card -- for those who haven't lost total faith or interest in me -- sometime in the early afternoon.

Come on out for ... Fleet Indian Day?!
Really? That horse deserves her own day? Can't wait to be back next year for Friendly Island day, and then um ... Ima Numbers Guy day? What's the over/under on how many people in attendance will be holding their momento win tickets from Fleet Indian's thrilling crawl in the '06 Personal Ensign?
Whatever, at least it's a decent card (minus the dreadful Fleet Indian stake), on which I have a few quick opinions.
Really like the chances of On Fire in the seventh. He ran greenly without Lasix for Phipps/Shug/Johnny in his debut, yet still stayed well during a final eighth in just over 11 seconds. He earned a 9 1/4 TG for the effort, the fastest turf figure anyone in the field has run, so any improvement with the race under the belt and addition of the Bold L would make him a big player, and he's bred well for the stretchout from six furlongs to eight he'll face. He's a fair 6-1 on the ML and I'll bet him to win at 4-1 or higher, plus use him with Kaishu and Surf Academy in the Pick Four. Or I might just scrap the pick four and hammer On Fire in a double with Lemon Shore, who looks like a lock to win the sixth.
Mama Theresa looks like the most logical single in the pick four, although Lauren's Tizzy stands a shot if Kent stays too close to a quick clip or if Mama Theresa bounces large off the last win.
The feature is competitive, but I feel pretty comfortable only going Amansara/Ballet Pacifica/Beat the Band/Mo Cuishie in the pick four, followed by Tears I Cry, Prom Party and Lady Carlock in the finale.
Time to get some snooze for a return to work, here's hoping I don't run anyone over with a golf cart. Good luck on Wednesday's card.

A few snaps from the weekend
As previously mentioned, I left my card reader at home, so as of now, I can't post any pictures from my digicam, although Phil said that he might be able to help me out with that next weekend. In the meantime, enjoy a few very cool pictures courtesy of Chris Dugger, brother of Matt, from his week at 'Toga.
Friday Night at Dinner
There's a funny story behind that one. I wasn't there, but the gist is that the DT crew waltzed into a fancy steak joint where everyone was dressed to the nines, and in they came looking like the White Trash America '07 tour, featuring Tom with his hat crooked and wearing flip-flops. After feeling awkward and busting collective nuts when they saw the $55 steaks and $16 salads, they packed up the RV and headed to a more inclusive dinner joint.
DT group shot (let me know if you wanna know who anyone is)
CORRECTION: Wayne Lukas and Bill Parcells
A post parade
Deliberation at the HQ
The pastoral beauty of the Spa
A stretch run
The pride and joy of Derby Trail, coming to a starting gate near you
DT with Sumwonlovesyou
The war room, as Chris put it
Unbelievable.. Two sober irishmen
Byk's printer is out of ink (what else is new), so no handicapping until I can find a way to get the form, and I woke up a tad too late to go to the barns. Would've liked to see and post pictures of the big boys (Street Sense and Curlin), but that will have to wait until next Tuesday. Sorry.
Will be back later this evening after glancing at the Wednesday card, which looks like a destroyer at first glance. Part of me is glad I'm heading back to work, because I'll have to carve out 2-3 strong plays a day rather than try to hammer every race, which is the strategy that got Scav on a plane home with his tail between his legs.
Even though the DT crew has shipped on out, I'm glad I still have Lori here, because otherwise I'd be bored even further off my ass than I already am.
Well, I'm off, back to trying to decide whether or not I should become a Celtics fan with the reason I became a Timberwolves fan in '96 being sent to Beantown. It's not a decision I take lightly and it will require much agonizing..

Back to earth
It's Monday night and the Derby Trail crew has almost entirely packed it up and shipped out, and apparently it took everyone else as well, as there was nobody at the track today. Felt like Belmont on a weekday.
Ever since I got that break on the pick three on opening day, I've been getting served left and right, and today was just another example. Fucking Sciacca has rocked me twice now with no-hope longshots beating me out of exactas in second.
At the house right now decompressing after a rough weekend, which I'll get into more at a later date and on DT. Lots of drama, that's for sure. Only one person really took the shaft, and even his cronies say that that guy had it coming a long time ago.
Even though I got destroyed at the windows, it was a hell of a time with the DT faithful and I'd love it if they came up again.
Starting work on Wednesday, which is obviously a major drag, but need the money, man.
Still developing the developing trends section that I promised, but the problem is that everything has been so topsy-turvy, there's no major, consistent trends to report.
On the bad news front, I realized today that I left my digicam card reader at home, which means I'll either have to get it mailed up here or wait until I go home after Travers to post all the pics. I'll post Chris' pics later tonight or tomorrow, if that helps.

Saratoga ran over my dog
Kinda how I feel right now, hung over as all hell, stuck in the same clothes as yesterday and reeling from the pounding I took at the windows and on the strip last night.
I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the nightlife here, however. Reminded me very much of the city in the variety of the bars and amount of people and the overall buzz.
Don't mean to sound sour, but that Whitney reeks of bullshit. Too many consistent horses (Flashy Bull, Papi Chullo, Magna Graduate) didn't run their races for me to fully buy it, although Lawyer Ron was certainly impressive.
