Really? That horse deserves her own day? Can't wait to be back next year for Friendly Island day, and then um ... Ima Numbers Guy day? What's the over/under on how many people in attendance will be holding their momento win tickets from Fleet Indian's thrilling crawl in the '06 Personal Ensign?
Whatever, at least it's a decent card (minus the dreadful Fleet Indian stake), on which I have a few quick opinions.
Really like the chances of On Fire in the seventh. He ran greenly without Lasix for Phipps/Shug/Johnny in his debut, yet still stayed well during a final eighth in just over 11 seconds. He earned a 9 1/4 TG for the effort, the fastest turf figure anyone in the field has run, so any improvement with the race under the belt and addition of the Bold L would make him a big player, and he's bred well for the stretchout from six furlongs to eight he'll face. He's a fair 6-1 on the ML and I'll bet him to win at 4-1 or higher, plus use him with Kaishu and Surf Academy in the Pick Four. Or I might just scrap the pick four and hammer On Fire in a double with Lemon Shore, who looks like a lock to win the sixth.
Mama Theresa looks like the most logical single in the pick four, although Lauren's Tizzy stands a shot if Kent stays too close to a quick clip or if Mama Theresa bounces large off the last win.
The feature is competitive, but I feel pretty comfortable only going Amansara/Ballet Pacifica/Beat the Band/Mo Cuishie in the pick four, followed by Tears I Cry, Prom Party and Lady Carlock in the finale.
Time to get some snooze for a return to work, here's hoping I don't run anyone over with a golf cart. Good luck on Wednesday's card.
AN OBSERVATIONAL, SELF-DEPRECATING, SOMETIMES UNCOMFORTABLE, BUT OCCASIONALLY INSIGHTFUL LOG OF A 20-YEAR-OLD CITY KID'S SARATOGA SUMMER
